Giclée - pronounced
zhee-clay or sometimes jee-clay.
The term is from the French verb gicler meaning "to squirt or to
spray"
Giclée is the use of the ink-jet
printing process for making fine art large format digital images.
Giclée is used to describe any large
format, high-resolution, ink-jet printer output. Usually made with
fade resistant dye or pigment-based inks.
Giclée printers commonly use between
six and twelve color inks. The use of dye based inks requires
special coating to avoid fading.
Artist and/or photographers are using
the low cost ink-jet printers as an alternative to lithography for
reproduction or limited editions.
